The other day we
reported that online retailer Amazon.com had begun taking pre-orders for
Gossip Girl - The Complete 1st Season, even though the studio had not yet announced the title. Well, the latter changed this morning as Warner Home Video formally put this release on their schedule, announcing it would be available at retailers on
August 19th.
List price, as Amazon has said all along, is $59.98 SRP (and Amazon is now taking pre-orders discounted to just $38.99, at the link below). This will be for a set of 5 DVDs running 810 minutes for 18 episodes. Video will be anamorphic Widescreen, audio in English Dolby Surround 5.1 (we also see a mention of a Portuguese - Stereo 2.0 track as an option, but we're not positive about that), and subtitles in English, Spanish, French, Korean, Portuguese and Chinese. Whew!
The early morning announcement doesn't list any extras yet (but I think we can be certain there will be some announced later), nor is package art available yet. Stay tuned and we'll update you as more comes in! In the meantime, here is the studio-provided description:
Want to know a secret? A really juicy secret? Look no further than the latest message from Manhattan's notorious blogger Gossip Girl. She keeps tabs on the city's most elite teens as they make the rounds from the preppiest school events to the most lavish, decadent parties. And between Serena and Blair's explosive friendship, Dan and Serena's budding romance, Nate and Blair's fairytale relationship (or is it?), Chuck's escapades and Jenny's introduction to the glamorous life, there's a lot to track! In this 5-disc, 18-episode Season One, friends, lovers, rivals and enemies abound. Even the darkest secrets don't stay hidden for long. You know you love it. XOXO!
UPDATE: Warner has just sent out an e-announcement that contains an early look at the box art, and mentions the following list of extras included on this set ("4 hours of special features"):
- Unaired Scenes
- 3 All-New Featurettes
- Music Videos
- Gag Reel
- Free Download of the Original Bestselling Book, read by Christina Ricci
2nd UPDATE: Warner has now provided a high resolution flat picture of the cover for this release. Enjoy!
