There's a new episode of
Glee on tonight, so it just seems like the right day to pass this tidbit along to everybody!
As you know, the DVD release of
Glee - Season 1, Volume 1: Road to the Sectionals (shown below) is already scheduled for
December 29th. Fans have been wondering how long the wait will be until the rest of the first season gets released. Some of our contacts in the home video retail industry, including one prominent wholesale distributor, have informed us that Fox's tentative plans right now for are
Spring 2010. Since the first release will have 13 of the 22 episodes from the show's freshman year on the air, this follow-up release of
Glee - Season 1, Volume 2 ought to include the remaining 9 episodes of the season. No specific release date is available yet, and it's all still subject to change, but that's the plans as of now. Stay tuned for updates!
NOTE: We've had a few people ask us whether there are Blu-ray plans for
Glee. We have heard nothing along those lines yet, not from Fox nor from any industry contacts. Anything is possible for the future, of course...especially as the new format becomes more and more popular. So if we hear anything, we'll certainly let you know as soon as we can!
UPDATE: While our (multiple) sources for the above information provided a title of "
Glee - Season 1, Volume 2" for the follow-up release, emphasizing another half-season set, we've quickly received an e-mail from reader Amber Bewley characterizing this information as "incorrect." She points us to
a Variety story that is almost a month old (but which nobody had previously made us aware of). In that story, writer Michael Schneider says that Fox "
plans to release another DVD containing the show's full first season (emphasis is ours)
sometime in mid-2010." Schneider's
Variety story goes on to explain that the December 29th release of
Glee - Season 1, Volume 1 will come enclosed with a voucher, which "
can be used toward purchase of the full season box set."
The method for how this voucher would be redeemed was not described; please read the story at the above link for all the available details. We should emphasize that this does NOT match the info we received from our contacts earlier today; we'll double-check with them tomorrow and see if they have been given any info from the studio about a full-season set. It COULD be that both types of packages will be offered, but that's just a possibility worth mentioning. If nothing else, we'll see what Fox Home Entertainment eventually announces, when they decide to make this official, so stay tuned!
