This past August saw the release from Columbia/Tristar (who has since renamed themselves as Sony Pictures Home Entertainment) of something called
The Complete Gidget Collection. Fans of the
Gidget TV series rejoiced, thinking that this was their show. It wasn't, though. It was a collection of the three big-screen films (1959, 1961, and 1963) which led up to the 1965 Sally Field-starring TV show.
But fans of the series can start to get excited again! Rumors have reached our ears about
Gidget - The Complete Series coming to DVD in 2005. Sony is working on this project, we're told, for release in the early Fall. The ABC show only lasted a single season, but it's end in 1966 led pretty much directly into Sally Fields' 1967 ABC series
The Flying Nun. The good news for Field fans is that
Nun is also supposed to be hitting with the first of three seasons on DVD at the same time! We'll be looking into this in the months to come, so stay tuned for more info.
