Rumors from far and wide in the home entertainment industry have reached our ears that the MPI Media Group - who are currently finishing up the June releases of
Family Affair and
The Color Honeymooners - have recently managed to acquire the rights to a historical piece of television!
The Ghost & Mrs. Muir, the 1968 program based on the classic Oscar- nominated 1947 feature film, is supposedly now in MPI's hands, we hear.
The TV show starred Edward Mulhare (
Knight Rider) and Hope Lange in the title roles, and Charles Nelson Reilly as the living nephew of the ghostly Captain Gregg (Mulhare). The show ran 2 seasons - first on NBC and then on ABC - and was in doubt for DVD release for a long time. But we've been told by people in-the-know that the complications have been cleared up, and that MPI was the lucky winner of the negotiations to put these out. It's a bit early, of course, to know when we would see the first season ship out, but hopefully we'll get it before the year is over (hey, Halloween would be good timing, eh?).
Bear in mind that this IS a rumor, and we have not confirmed this with the studio because our messages to our contacts at MPI were not immediately returned. Stay tuned, though, and if there is anything to this then we'll keep you informed about further updates and developments!
