Last November we
broke the word that HBO Video's plans to release the
Generation Kill mini-series (which tells the story of the First Recon Battalion Marines in the first 40 days of the Iran War) had changed: instead of releasing the DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions day and date in mid-December, the DVD moved forward at that time but the high-def Blu-ray release was pushed back to
June 16th. This morning HBO's distributor, Warner Home Video, officially announced the Blu-ray title, confirming the street date we gave you almost four months ago.
Written and produced by Emmy-award winner David Simon (
The Wire), and also produced by the award-winning George Faber (
Elizabeth I), the Blu-ray edition of the title has been up for pre-order at Amazon (see button link below) the entire time...just not showing a release date. The entry showed the list price of $79.98 for the high-def BD, and HBO/Warner's announcement today confirms that as well. It comes with all 7 parts on 3 "BD-50" discs, displayed in 1080p video and sporting DTS-HD Master Audio sound. In addition to all of the bonus material found on the standard DVD release, you'll also get some addition Blu-only extras: Mission Maps, a Military Glossary and a Chain of Command Chart. Here's a look at the packaging:
