Well, here's something interesting. We're not exactly sure what it means, and we're definitely not going to guarantee that there's a DVD release for-certain coming out of this. We're just pointing out a fact, that's all...and after we do that, you'll know exactly as much as we do.
Here's that fact: this morning we noticed
an Amazon listing titled
G.I. Joe: Resolute, which is the name of the brand-new animated series that began airing on the [adult swim] portion of the Cartoon Network channel this past April. The listing at Amazon isn't taking pre-orders, or showing any details...it just says to "Sign up to be Notified," in case such a release ever happens. That sort of listing is posted on Amazon all the time, and unfortunately it never means that a release is for-sure coming. It usually just means that Amazon is collecting names of potential customers, in case it's ever released.
But this listing is different from those in one particular way: it shows a "DVD Release Date." And that date it gives isn't far off...it's
November 3rd. The listing shows Hasbro as the studio, but there's no information about such a release at Hasbro's website. Nor do either of the home video distributors they've used in the past, Paramount Home Entertainment and Shout! Factory, have any information about such a release at their own websites. And if something were coming to DVD in just a few weeks, like this seems to be saying, then it's a cinch that we would have seen an announcement from the studio in question by now.
That's why we say we're not sure if this Amazon listing really indicates that a release is truly coming. We're probably getting your hopes up for nothing, honestly, but still...it's a fact that this information is visible in a public place, so we thought we should pass it on to you. Stay tuned, and if we hear anything further about this, we'll be sure to let you know.
UPDATE: Quickly on the heels of posting this story, we received an e-mail from reader Kevin Camilleri, with a fascinating aspect of this Amazon listing which we, ourselves, had overlooked. Kevin pointed out that the
Amazon.ca listing for this title, which is the Canadian branch of Amazon, actually IS taking pre-orders for
G.I. Joe: Resolute on DVD! It does not currently show cover art, but it uses the same Amazon ID # as the USA listing, and shows the same
November 3rd release date. In fact, there's no other differences in the listing except that the Canadian one is taking pre-orders, and therefore it has pricing. The list price shown is CA$22.99 SRP, and as of this writing it's discounted to CA$15.99 (subject to change without notice, at Amazon's discretion). The USA list price is $19.99 SRP, by the way.
