G.I. Joe - Mill Creek Announces 'A Real American Hero: Countdown for Zartan' DVD

G.I. JOE is the code name for America’s daring, highly trained special missions force. It’s purpose: to defend human freedom against Cobra, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world! G.I. Joe, the “real American hero,” takes on injustices and fights for freedom, directing his efforts in trying to infiltrate and destroy the Cobra organization.

The 1980s produced a whole slew of cartoon addictions based on popular toy lines, and G.I. Joe certainly stands out from the crowd as a reinvention of a brand that has remained a childhood icon dating back to the 1960s! In its three-year run, G.I. Joe became a staple of Wednesday afternoon television watching for a generation.

Shout! Factory has previously sub-licensed some of their titles to Mill Creek Entertainment; in the past we've seen Mill Creek release single-disc budget priced titles for Ironside, McHale's Navy and more. This year Shout! and Mill Creek are teaming up again with some more merchandise along these lines, and one of them will be "G.I. Joe - A Real American Hero: Countdown for Zartan." Cost is $9.98 for this October 12th release, and here is the list of 8 episodes that are included (this is a copy-and-paste from studio-provided materials), followed by the cover art.

Note that these are the first 8 "regular" episodes of the show, following the 3 five-part storylines ("The MASS Device," "The Revenge of COBRA" and "Pyramid of Darkness") which originally kicked off the series. All of these have been previously released on DVD, first from Rhino and more recently from Shout! But anyone who is looking for an inexpensive "intro" disc of this fantastic classic series, for themselves, a friend, or a family member, should definitely check out this item!
