When we brought you the
press release for
Friends - The Complete 10th Season a few weeks ago, many
Friends fans got excited at something in there which is disctinctly non-DVD: a video game. The press release mentioned both PC and PlayStation 2 versions of a trivia game called
Friends: The One With All The Trivia, which is scheduled to arrive on the same
November 15th street date as the 10th Season package. It contains over 700 clips from all ten seasons of the show, and can pose more than 3,000 trivia questions of the type that have been seen in the extras on the various DVD season sets. There are both single-player and multi-player modes of play, and the game is hosted in-character by "Gunther" (James Michael Tyler), "Janice" (Maggie Wheeler), and "Jack & Judy Geller" (Elliott Gould and Christina Pickles).
Yesterday, Warner Bros. announced that, on the same day (Nov. 15th), they will release a bundle package of both
The Complete 10th Season and the PC version of
The One With All The Trivia. The SRP for the combo package will be $65.92, which is comparable to adding up the separate SRPs of each item individually. But Warner anticipates that retailers will give a steeper store discount to the bundle set than to the individual packages, making it a better value for consumers...they hope.
On the other hand, Amazon is currently
pre-selling the 10th Season separately for $29.24 (that's down seventy cents from the price during our last news post), and
pre-selling the PC version of the Trivia game for $19.99...that's $49.23 for buying each separately (and qualifying for Amazon's free shipping program to boot). So any retailers - Amazon included - who put the newly-announced bundle up for sale will have to beat that kind of price range.
Note, by the way, that the PC version requires a DVD-ROM drive. It is the only version of the Trivia game bundled with the Season 10 set...the PlayStation 2 version will not be. Neither the PS2 version nor the new bundle are up for pre-order at Amazon so far, or else we would link them to you now. The PS2 version also has a $19.99 SRP, by the way, and here is full-size cover art for the PC version of the Trivia game, followed by the PS2 version artwork:
