Recently the folks at Amazon.com have been simply ON TOP OF IT, with advance pre-order listings of TV-DVD releases that are among the most-wanted items by fans, but which haven't even been announced by the studio yet! And the very latest of these is going to make you scream...in sheer joy!
Friday The 13th: The Series - The 1st Season has been given an Amazon
pre-order listing, which was spotted this morning by eagle-eyed reader Donn Louch (thanks, Donn!). The studio listed is Paramount, which our information says is correct. Paramount Home Entertainment is currently announcing their September slate of releases, but hasn't included this one among them. It would be a bit too rushed to expect it in time for June 13th (a Friday) next month, and the next actual "Friday the 13th" on a calendar doesn't occur until February 2009. So, while no release date is provided at Amazon's posting, I think we can imagine that this would be formally announced in the not-too-distant future, and timed to probably arrive for Halloween's spooky festivities.
Amazon is taking your pre-purchases right now, though, and you can lock in your copy for $37.99 as of this writing. The list cost is $54.99 SRP, as shown there. No other info is provided there so far.
The show ran 3 seasons, and there were 26 episodes in the first season. For those of you not familiar with the show, it bears little connection to the film series other than actors and crew working on either one, and the actual name (in fact, it was originally going to be called "
The 13th Hour"). The premise of the show was explained before each episode:
Lewis Vendredi made a deal with the devil to sell cursed antiques. But he broke the pact, and it cost him his soul. Now, his niece Micki, and her cousin Ryan have inherited the store. And with it, the curse. Now they must get everything back...and the real terror begins.
The Emmy-nominated series had guest stars during the first season which included Ray Walston (
Picket Fences, My Favorite Martian), Zack Ward (
Titus, 2007's
Transformers film), Carrie Snodgress (
Diary of a Mad Housewife) and Lazar Rockwood (a.k.a. "Lazar",
Witchblade).
Stay tuned, because we'll stay on top of this and bring you an exact release date, plus package art and further details, just as soon as we can!
