Back in 2004, Judd Apatow's short-lived NBC series
Freaks and Geeks came to DVD from the folks at Shout! Factory. There were two different highly acclaimed releases: a 6-disc set available in retail stores, and
limited edition "Yearbook" version with two additional DVDs, containing lots more bonus material.
With Apatow's star rising higher and higher these days, it's no surprise that Shout! would want to make sure
Freaks and Geeks hasn't been forgotten. Now, according to
an Amazon pre-order listing, it looks like the Yearbook Edition of
Freaks and Geeks will be available once more later this year, on
October 28th. The Amazon listing shows an 8-disc set, which conforms to the previous release, and Amazon's current (as of this writing; subject to change) discounted cost is $118.99...very much in line with the $120 price tag of the original release (note that the list price shown at Amazon is $169.99 SRP).
We've requested additional information from Shout! about this release, including confirmation that it is the exact same set, with the same extras, and the same packaging. We suspect it is, but naturally we don't want to assume anything. Shout! tells us that the details aren't ready just yet, but should be available shortly. So stay tuned, and we'll update you as soon as we can!
