Some big news broke last week when First Look Pictures announced that it has acquired Ventura Entertainment Enterprises. Those names should sound familiar to fans of TV shows on DVD since both companies are active in the genre. First Look, which combined with Capital Entertainment last year, puts out shows like
Unsolved Mysteries,
Footballers' Wives,
American Idol, and the upcoming
Baywatch, while Ventura has released
Wiseguy,
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids through some of their lables, while also distributing titles for Showtime (
The L Word,
Queer As Folk), and other smaller distributors.
TK Arnold at
Home Media Retailing wrote an article on First Look's acquisition of Ventura, and he mentioned something we hadn't heard before; First Look owns
Flipper. We assume this is the 1995 series starring a young Jessica Alba, though it could be the 1964 series. We're going to look into this some more, and hopefully report back with some good news.
