Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.
Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) -- but not much else.
The HBO show
Flight of the Conchords is apparently on its way to DVD before the end of this year. The studio has not officially announced that yet, nor has word come from their distributor, Warner Home Video. However, as with our post the other day about
The Wire - Season 4, an HBO ad aimed at retailers is appearing in this week's edition of trade publication
Home Media Magazine. The message in the ad is "No Other Gift Is HBO," and is clearly telling the buyers at the video stores to stock up plenty of HBO TV-on-DVD box sets for the holiday season that's approaching.
The ad is full of pictures for box sets representing many titles that are out (
Sex In The City - Complete, Six Feet Under - Complete, Rome - Season 2, etc.) and a few titles that are announced to be on-the-way (
Entourage - Season 3, Part 2, The Sopranos - Season 6, Part 2)...clearly meant for a gift-giving season push. Two items pictured there are completley un-announced, and those are
The Wire, as we've already posted, and
The Flight of the Conchords - The Complete 1st Season. There's no additional info there, just the box art, but we've got a look at that for you:
