A few days ago we had an exciting, exclusive
report about Fox Home Entertainment's upcoming
Firefly - The Complete Series release on hi-def Blu-ray Disc. The info came from Canadian sources, listing specs and all the bonus material that will be on this 3-disc set, plus revealing the
November 11th release date. We've now heard from a couple of other industry sources, this time in the United States (and separate from each other). We're told by them, individually, that the same information DOES apply to the USA release of this disc, at least per the early "heads-up" info provided by the studio. We're also told to expect this release to include a preview and/or trailer that will promote Joss Whedon's upcoming new TV series
Dollhouse, so keep an eye out for that!
We've also got a quick mention of something else cool,
Firefly-related, and falls under the category of "hi-def Blu-ray Disc". Actually, I'm surprised none of our readers wrote in to talk about this! As many of you
may know, Universal Studios has also begun releasing in the Blu-ray format, and among their first releases were
The Mummy and
The Mummy Returns, to tie in with this weekend's box office debut of the third film. When I opened up my BD copies of those films, I found an advertising insert from Universal, showing off their initial slate of Blu releases, and showing a collage of cover art for others that we have to presume are in-the-works. Among those others? The
Firefly feature film
Serenity, shown in a Blu-ray Disc package. Here's a scan of that (followed by the
Firefly Blu-ray package art, and an Amazon button link to pre-order that). Note that we WON'T be continuing to cover the hi-def release of the feature film (so please don't ask!), but we thought that we ought to at least let you know that it seems to be coming; it will be great to (eventually) have
The Complete Series along with the feature film together on Blu-ray!
