It was a couple of years ago that Time-Life released
5 DVDs of the classic cartoon series
Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and then last year they followed up by releasing
6 more DVDs...all available only by mail-order.
Fat Albert hasn't been available in retails stores on DVD at all yet.
This December, that will change. Ventura Distribution is working with UrbanWorks to bring two
Fat Albertofferings to store shelves on
December 14th, just in time for the Christmas-Day debut of the new live-action feature film that's backed by The Coz himself. These don't seem to be the same as the Time-Life versions. Here are the choices you'll have:
First up is a low-end, single-disc release that goes for $14.99 SRP. Simply called
Fat Albert and the Cosby kids, Ventura says this "consists of the Top 5 highest-rated episodes of the series" (however, the don't name which ones these are). It runs at 150 minutes.
The other version is a high-end, 4-DVD box set called
Fat Albert's Greatest Hits - The Ultimate Collection. Described only as "a special collection of...historic episodes (that) were compiled into one box set," there is no other indication of what the exact content is. Only that the running time is 720 minutes, and the cost will be $49.99 SRP.
You can pre-order either the
1-Disc or the
4-Disc versions right now from DVDEmpire.com, who is of course offering it at a discount. Cover art isn't available just yet, but stay tuned and we'll brink it to you when we have it.
