Premiering in 1972 on CBS this classic animated series was created, produced and hosted by comedian Bill Cosby, who also lent his voice to a number of characters, including Fat Albert himself. The show, based on Cosby`s remembrances of his childhood gang, focused on the lovable, oversized Albert and his friends. The show always had an educational lesson emphasized by Cosby's live-action segments, and the gang would usually gather in their North Philadelphia junkyard to play a rock song on their cobbled-together instruments at the end of the show. Includes Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (36 episodes), The New Fat Albert Show (24 episodes) and The Adventures of Fat Albert and Cosby Kids (50 episodes).
It's been just a couple months shy of a year since we first brought you the news
about Shout! Factory's development of a 16-DVD release for Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids - The Complete Series
. Unfortunately this title later fell off the schedule
, with no new release date. Late last year we still didn't have any concrete word on when the title would be out, only that Shout! still was planning to release it and hoped to make it happen within the following year.
It looks like that this is indeed happening in 2013, a little bit over a year after the original planned date. The original Amazon.com listing - the same one from 2012 - has been updated within the last 24 hours to begin taking pre-orders once more. And it shows a new availability date as well, penning in June 25th
on the calender. The $119.99 SRP cost and the package art remain unchanged from the previous plans.
However, where this previously was said to be a 16-disc collection, Amazon's product details for the title now says it is to be a 15-disc effort. Yet the breakdown of episode count information described at Amazon (quoted above, at top: "Includes Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (36 episodes), The New Fat Albert Show (24 episodes) and The Adventures of Fat Albert and Cosby Kids (50 episodes)
") matches what Shout! previously said in last year's press release
. Perhaps the bonus content has changed? Or perhaps this is just a typo on Amazon's part? Shout! Factory hasn't formally re-announced this item, so we don't have official word from them as of this writing. Stay tuned!
