Earlier this year we
had the scoop that Entertainment Rights (possibly working through their subsidiary, Classic Media) and distributor Genius Entertainment had taken back control of the classic Filmation-produced
Fat Albert series, and are planning to begin their own DVD releases later this year. The series was previously licensed to Urbanworks for home video, and that resulted in roughly 8 DVD releases from them during 2004-2006...but the entire run of the show was never completed on disc. Now ER and Genius apparently plan to start all over again, including new DVDs of previously released material.
We previously were told by our sources to expect "
Season 1, Volume 1" to arrive first from ER/Genius, but apparently the studios have switched gears and decided to first re-release
Fat Albert's Halloween Special. It will ship on
August 26th, and cost $12.93 SRP. Besides the featured title special, there will also be 2 Bonus Episodes: "The Prankster" and "The Jinx." Total running time listed is 65 minutes, and these will be presented in the original full frame video format. Box art isn't avialable yet, but here is the studio description:
Rudy and his new friend Devery plan to spend Halloween playing practical jokes on the elderly. They both take aim on Mrs. Bakewell, an old widow living in a spooky house by the graveyard. But the kids get the ultimate scare when two of them don't return from "trick or treating!" Did Mrs. Bakewell have something to do with their mysterious disappearance?
