We usually don't go out of our way here at TVShowsOnDVD to mention a price drop, but this one is different. You see, we've gotten a lot of fan feedback over time about the price situation with the two already-released
All In The Family season sets. Here's the quick run-down:
So the newer release with more episodes on higher-capacity discs has been list-pricing for $10 less than the older release. On the other hand, it's really not too hard to understand how that came about:
The Complete 1st Season - along with
The Larry Sanders Show - Season 1 - were the very first two Columbia season-set releases for a TV Show. Therefore, the pricing of both reflects the higher SRPs that were in effect at the time, before TV-on-DVD sets became such a commodity item. Wow, was it just a little over two years ago that this sort of thing was brand-new?!?!?...my, how time flies!
But a number of fans had written in, or posted remarks about it on discussion boards, and wondered if Columbia would ever get the higher price on the older release sorted out. We passed on your concerns to the studio back in January, but afterward we didn't hear any more about this situation...until now, that is.
Effective on July 6th, Columbia Tristar Home Entertainment is dropping the list price on All In The Family - The Complete 1st Season to $29.95, matching the price of the
2nd Season set. We would not be surprised to find out that this also matches the SRP of
The Complete 3rd Season, which is
expected to release later in July.
Don't forget, though, that it's up to each retail chain to make sure that their on-shelf product reflects the price drop...AND to make sure that the item's on the shelf in the first place! Hopefully the big chains will see the wisdom of promoting all three seasons together when the newest one hits in mid-July. Look here for more details about the
3rd Season release in two weeks, on its announce date. We already have preliminary box art and lots of details about the set; we're just waiting for the studio's okay to announce it, so stay tuned!
