The other day we
broke the news about the exciting CBS/Paramount announcement that
Family Ties - The 2nd Season is coming on DVD to store shelves, starting on
October 9th. At the time, we told you to expect 23 episodes, plus "Episodic Promos" as extras. Yesterday afternoon we received new word from the studio about both the episode count, and the extras.
The sort-of bad news (but not unsurprising) is that there will be only 22 episodes on this release. Before you get upset about that, though, just recall: when the show first aired, there was an episode produced during the second production year called "The Gambler", which didn't actually air until the next fall. In September 1984, NBC aired that episode, immediately following it the next week with the first episode from the third production year. As a result, we would not be surprised that the reason only 22 episodes are on
The 2nd Season DVD set is because "The Gambler" ends up with the third season set. We asked the studio to verify this, but did not receive a response by our deadline.
On the other hand, the info CBS/Paramount sent out yesterday also told us that there would be MORE extras than their initial announcement told about. Beside the episodic previews, there will also be "brand new cast and crew interviews, featuring Michael J. Fox"! Outstanding, and that just makes our mouth water even more (which is the idea, right?).
