Tomorrow's release of
Family Guy - Volume 5 on DVD has undergone a VERY last-minute cover art change! We first got wind of this last Thursday, when a reader named "Chris" e-mailed us, having noticed a change to the cover art at online retailers like Amazon and DVDEmpire. The original box art, which we
posted back in late June, shows the entire Griffin family standing on stage, singing to the holder of the box, and there is no audience visible in front of the stage. That same artwork is still the only version available to us at Fox's password-protected press site.
But Chris, who we thank highly for giving us the heads-up, noted that the new artwork at Amazon was more in-line with the original "thumbnail" art we showed at the bottom of
the press release, back in early June: with Peter and Lois sitting on a piano, the other Griffins moved around, and with an audience clearly visible "down in front". We were unable to get an immediate response from Fox on this, but we checked in with our contacts in the retail world. Our friends at stores were able to go to the stock they had received late last week, to hold until the
September 18th street date tomorrow, and verify that the new artwork IS indeed what's on the box. Here's a look at that, and below it is a peek at the rear of the box, too:
