A wonderful thing happened to TV audiences in 1966: the parents of three lovely (but fictional) children in Terre Haute, Indiana died in an accident. Oh, that was tragic to be sure, but their Uncle Bill, a well-to-do construction engineer in New York City who lives in a large 5th Avenue apartment with his "Gentlemen's Gentlemen" Mr. French, takes them in. And so Buffy and her twin brother Jody, 6, and their fifteen-year-old sister Cissy, move in and change Uncle Bill's life beyond his wildest dreams.
The show lasted 5 seasons, and spawned a successful line of "Mrs. Beasley" dolls (Buffy's favorite toy and best friend), and inspired a number of references to the show in motion pictures over the years (including such esoteric films as Police Academy 2, Hudson Hawk, Dr. Doolittle 2 and Mr. Deeds). In 2002 a remake series was made starring Gary Cole (Midnight Caller, American Gothic, Crusade as "Uncle Bill" and Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show), but was short-lived.
MPI Video tells us that they will be bringing Family Affair (the original series) to DVD in April, 2006. It will be the complete 1st Season of the show, with all 30 episodes from the 1966-67 year. Brian Keith as "Uncle Bill," Sebastian Cabot as "Mr. French," and Johnny Whitaker (Sigmund and the Sea Monsters) as Jody...we can't wait! Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated as we get more information.
