Fame - Early Cover Art Shows A Focus On The Entire Cast

A couple of Fridays ago we spilled the beans on Sony/MGM's DVD release of 1982's Fame - The Complete 1st Season, thanks to an online retailer listing it a bit earlier than the studio's planned announce date for the following Monday. When the official announcement came, though, we found out that the retailer had covered the early information pretty well: November 1st release date, 4 DVDs, $49.95 SRP.

In the week since then, the studio has added a little bit more info for this release: Full Screen Presentation, English (Stereo) sound, plus English and French subtitles and closed captioning for the hearing impaired. Running time of 736 minutes. They also provided the following description of this release:
Fame follows the dreams, joys, and heartbreaks of the students and teachers at a High School for the Performing Arts in New York City. The Art School was always their dream. They want to dance, they want to sing, to play music, to act but above all they want to live their lives while they are still young and full of energy. Leroy, Danny, Jesse, Chris, Coco and all the others try hard because they know that they've got a long way to go till they reach fame and riches. Fame costs and here (the Art School) is where they start paying for it.

One thing they didn't have for us yet was box art, though. Fans have been wondering what the cover would look like, and whether it would feature Lori Singer, whose character of "Julie Miller" only appeared during the 1982-83 episodes. One of our friends from the world of DVD retail was able to send over a small pic of the early cover art, though, and we can see that this concept does not focus on any single character, but instead displays the ensemble cast idea which carried over to the TV series from the 1980 film:

Even though this is the graphic that's currently circulating among retailers, please bear in mind that this may not be the final cover art. However, we wanted to show fans what direction the studio's been looking at so far. Stay tuned and we'll bring you official final art from Sony/MGM, just as soon as they make it available.
