Long-time reader and long-time HomeTheaterForum.com member Tom Tagliente
posted something interesting earlier today, over there at the HTF...a thread that says "
Falcon Crest: The Complete 3rd Season is Coming." To be more specific, Tom's post begins by telling other HTF members this: "
Warner Archive Collection sent me an email yesterday that said 'We are aiming for an early 2012 release for FALCON CREST: The Complete 3rd Season'."
Anxious to confirm this information, I quickly got in touch with our contact at the Warner Archive. The swift response I got verified that further releases are indeed on the radar, but that the timetable given by somebody to Tom is apparently more tentative than the wording might come across as. As with all DVD releases (whether manufacture-on-demand, like Warner Archive titles are, or via traditional manufacturing methods that are usually sold in stores), they have to go through the source material and make sure the masters are usable, and they have to go through all the legal rights clearance processes. So they are indeed working on it, but the timetable given to Tom may not be set in stone. We will, of course, keep you updated here as further developments occur, and when the Warner Archive Collection makes it official then we will let you know just as soon as we possibly can. Stay tuned!
For now, though, I'd also like to address questions about another "primetime soap" that's part of the Warner Home Video library, which the HTF thread and which our e-mailing readers have asked about in conjunction with this
Falcon's Crest info:
Knots Landing. The plain and simple truth is that we have no knowledge at this time about further DVD releases of this show, either by traditional in-store releases or as part of the Warner Archive. Neither did our contact. As we know, the reasons given as recently as a year ago at the last HTF online chat with Warner Home Video is that they are still looking at
Knots, but that sales of the previous DVDs just weren't where they needed to be. However, I would personally speculate on this (and I could be very, very wrong!) that with a brand-new incarnation of
Dallas coming out soon (the show
Knots was spun off from, after all), it's possible that if the new program is any sort of success, that Warner might conceivably try further DVD releases of
Knots as a tie-in to the new show. That's just me thinking out loud, though, and the studio has said NOTHING to me to indicate that this is what they are thinking. I just present it to our readers as an idea to consider when they wonder about more releases of the DVD. Whether you check out the new
Dallas is completely up to you! Considering that Hagman, Duffy and Gray were satisfied enough with the scripts to reprise their characters, it's probably worth at least a look.
But enough about
Knots Landing and
Dallas. Fans of
Falcon's Crest, stay tuned and we'll fill you in further about DVD releases of
Season 3, just as soon as Warner lets us know!
