It's been 4 years now since the DVD release of the
1st Season of Everwood, and fans have been climbing the walls waiting for the remaining three seasons of the show to come home on digital disc. However, the latest word on the subject was two years ago, when
we passed along word from Warner Home Video that the first release simply hadn't sold enough to warrant releasing Seasons 2, 3 or 4. Of course, that was the simple explanation. As we learned later on, it wasn't so much the sales alone, but the amount of consumer sales vs. the high cost of licensing all the music needed to give fans a complete soundtrack on future releases. Warner always tries really hard to keep all of the original music on their TV-DVD sets.
Yesterday we got an e-mail from reader Joshua Laforge, who sent us the heads-up (thanks!) that a music artist, Will Derryberry, had posted
a new entry at his blog the previous day, including some comments, that sounded like fans would have new hope for a release of the long awaited
Everwood - Season 2. Let's take a look at what was said:

My songs, "Seven, and "Lonesome" will appear on WB's "Everwood". It will be available on the DVD and online download release.

Do you know when the S2 Everwood DVDs will be released?

Interesting, yes? Well, we were cautious nonetheless. Just because music rights were worked out with one artist, naturally doesn't mean that other needed musical rights are all worked out. So we brought the question to our studio contacts at Warner Home Video, who confirmed that the set IS indeed being worked on!
However, they are not ready to announce the set just yet. They are still working to clear as much music as possible. However, the indication was that fans should be prepared for at least some musical replacement on this set, due to the high cost of licensing it.
So this is a good news/bad news situation, but in the end the studio has come down on the side of doing the best job of releasing it that they can, rather than keeping the show bottled up forever. It's a difficult decision, but probably the best one they could have made. Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated with further developments on this release, and bring you a release date just as soon as possible! In the meantime, if you haven't bought
the first season set by now, then get on the stick!
