Following up on last month's long-awaited (almost 5 years!) release of
Everwood - The Complete 2nd Season, fans are already wondering what the chances are for the final two seasons of the show coming to DVD. Word seems to have surfaced on the subject - three weeks ago, actually! - over at the
July 8 post at Vlada's "Staying In" blog.
Vlada quotes Greg Berlanti, the creator of the show, who responds "You will now" when asked whether fans will get DVDs with the remaining episodes of
Everwood. What does that mean? Here's a quote from Vlada's excellent write-up (which covers much more than this, so head over and read the rest of it!):
"They made us change all of the music," he explained. "The music that was on that show in particular was very important to certain elements. I didn't want to go back through every single episode and switch out every song to some cheaper song just so we could release it. Finally we hired someone to go in and do that because I wanted people to be able to see the episodes."
So the key to overcoming the obstacles holding up those releases was seen in the disclaimer found on the back fo the Season 2 set:
While a change to the original broadcast music isn't always the happiest news, the main point everyone has to keep in mind here is that Warner Home Video is working hard to make these episodes available to fans in the best possible condition. If you haven't picked up
Everwood - The Complete 2nd Season yet, then you should make sure you add it to your collection as soon as you're able to. Despite the quotes above, there's honestly no guarantee that the 3rd and 4th seasons will be released...especially if the sales aren't there on Season 2. Be sure to help make it happen; vote with your dollars!
Since nothing's guaranteed yet until the studio formally announces it, please file this under "rumors" at the moment. Strong ones, no doubt, but still not set in stone. Our thanks to reader Wolfram Meidlinger for the heads-up about Vlada's write-up.
