A couple of weeks ago we brought you
the first look at early front cover art for Universal's upcoming release of
Emergency! - The Final Rescues on DVD. This set will bring you all 6 post-series reunion telefilms, which had the usual cast at first but later focused just on paramedics DeSoto and Gage. The studio invited us to ask our readers for feedback about the previous cover art, and they've taken that input and made a couple of changes.
One change you'll immediately notice is that the helmets no longer show the "L.A. County 51" wording, as Roy and John weren't often in their "home" jurisdiction in these stories! Toward that end, you'll also notice that the "51" on side of the fire engine's cab has been changed to "18." Sharp-eyed readers noticed that on the previous version of the image, the top of the cab and the back of the squad had the same number; our guess is that Universal's cover artists had taken the original shot and changed it to "51" to try to make things more familiar, and less confusing, to more casual fans. An admirable sentiment, if that was the reason, but it proved unacceptable to the more passionate fans of this show. Another issue brought up was whether or not the paramedics should be wearing "civilian clothes" on this cover; it's been a long time since I've personally seen these productions (and I missed a couple entirely), so I'm unsure if they wore "civvies" in these stories. But we passed along to the studio that fans had their doubts about that, plus all other feedback of course, and Universal elected to keep it as-is...besides the two changes we've noted.
If any further changes occur, we'll certainly let you know. We'll also fill you in about the specific release date, and all the other details, in the not too distant future. Stay tuned!
