Each year, for the past four years (starting in 2005), Universal has made an announcement in the October-November timeframe for a Late January or Early February DVD release of the next season set of Emergency!. Since it's now mid-December and no studio announcement has come, we've gone some digging about the status of Emergency! - Season 6. After all, it's the last regular season of the show that needs to come out on DVD. Fans are so concerned that we're starting to think we'll need a paramedic to come and insert a chest tube in them, to help them breathe! Joking aside, though, we DO have some upset readers.
We're pleased to tell all the worried fans that our industry sources have newly confirmed for us that Emergency! - Season 6 IS indeed still in the works, and WILL be coming out sometime in 2010. Since there has been no official word from the studio so far, then we're sure it's safe to assume that for some reason this release will be later in the year than the previous releases have been. Our sources didn't have any specific info about that, though. Still, better late than never, right?
Following the end of the regular program in Spring 1977, there was a run of 6 post-series telefilms which aired in 1978 and 1979. DVD industry pundits - myself included - have expected Universal to release those approximately a year after they publish the sixth season set. Such a speculative compilation would, in theory, be called the "Emergency! - Movie Collection" (based on how the studio has handled such releases in the past, as with The Rockford Files). That's not official, though, it's just a guess. Stay tuned and we'll keep you informed about anything further we find out about Emergency! on DVD.
