Each year right around this time, Universal announces their annual season set DVD release of a certain classic firefighter/paramedic series. Continuing that "schedule," this morning the studio announced the
January 20th DVD debut of
Emergency! - Season 5. This set will cost $39.98 SRP.
The fifth season, from the 1975-76 period, had 22 new episodes, and you should expect all of them to be included here. They will be presented in full screen video, with English mono audio and an option for English subtitles. During the original broadcasts, the Christmas and New Year's weeks featured "flashback" episodes of the original pilot, "The Wedsworth-Townsend Act," broken into two parts. It's not known yet if these will be included or not.
But we DO know that something else is included: you will get a bonus
Adam-12 episode from the fifth season of that series. Why? Because this 1972 story, "Lost and Found," featured a cross-over appearance by the cast of
Emergency: Officers Malloy and Reed share the screen with Paramedics DeSoto and Gage, Doctors Brackett and Early, and Nurse Dixie McCall. You'll even see Diedre Hall, famously known for her role as "Dr. Marlena Evens" on
Days of Our Lives, appear in her earlier role as a nurse at Rampart Emergency Hospital.
During the main
Emergency! episodes featured on this release, you'll find guest stars that include Bernard Fox (
Bewitched), Sharon Gless (
Cagney and Lacey), Wolfman Jack (
American Graffiti), Grant Goodeve (
Eight is Enough), Royal Dano (
Moby Dick), Dick Van Patten (
Eight is Enough) and Gretchen Corbett (
The Rockford Files, Otherworld).
There were a total of six formal seasons produced for the show, plus a so-called "seventh season" that consisted of a half dozen movies-of-the-week from '77 to '79. Here's the package art for
Emergency! - Season 5:
