The first thing this morning, we
reported about an August release of
Ellen - The Complete 1st Season. We said it ought to consist of 11 episodes from the first season, properly called
"These Friends of Ours" (the show's title during an ensemble-cast-driven rookie year, before switching the focus to rising star Ellen DeGeneres).
Now we've had a few corrections come our way. First of all, a source close to this has sent us a note that the release will actually contain 13 episodes, including "The Mugging" and "The Tape," which were produced in the 1st season but didn't actually air until the 3rd! This leads us to believe that the release will be in production order, instead of airdate order (which is wildly different). If so, the line-up would look like this:
"Pilot," "The Promotion," "The Refrigerator,"
"The Mugging" (aired in Season 3), "The Anchor," "The Class Reunion," "The Tape" (aired in Season 3), "The Boyfriend Stealer," "The Soft Touch," "A Kiss is Still A Kiss," "The Go-Between," "The Hand That Robs the Cradle," and "The Houseguest."
Next up was a note from regular contributer Rob Broder, who told us that DVDPlanet.com had added this release to their pre-order listings. You can find that link right
here. The popular e-tail seller shows that the release is actually going to be on
September 28th, at $39.95 for a 2-DVD set (though they are discounting it by 30% at the moment).
Since DVDPlanet's date didn't mesh with the previous "August" timeframe we'd had, we called A&E and double-checked. Sure enough, the new September date IS the correct one. The other piece of info we picked up was about the extras:
- Commentary on the pilot episode by cast-members Arye Gross & Holly Fulger
- Cast biographies
We were also told to expect artwork in the near future. We're trying to get answers to other questions, too, such as what title sequences will be used on the shows ("
Ellen" or "
These Friends of Mine" opening credits), whether the
TFoM title would be mentioned on the cover, and of course info on the specs. Stay tuned, and we'll bring this info to you just as soon as we can!
