It was early November when we brought you
the press release for
The Electric Company - The Best Of, a 4-DVD set which is all set to give both old and young fans a jolt on
February 7th. Shout! Factory is putting this out, and they have a new online trailer which you can view to see all about this release. Playing in the background of the trailer is the memorable theme song for this classic kids show, so if nothing else give it a click and sing along. We have this trailer available in two different formats:
As a bit of a news post bonus today, here's a bit of trivia: The head writer of
The Electric Company got started writing on
Captain Kangaroo, moved on to
The Dick Cavett Show, and after
Electric Company he wrote for shows like
Alice, Benson and
The Golden Girls. His father John was a television writer as well, working on such shows as
Leave It To Beaver, The Donna Reed Show, The Andy Griffith Show and
The Dick Van Dyke Show. His son is some dude named Joss who also has written for TV, starting on
Roseanne and then creating shows like
Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel and
Firefly. The head writer of
The Electric Company was none other than Tom Whedon...middle generation of a 3-generation tradition of great television writers!
Our thanks to the folks at
Video Business for tipping us off about that interesting bit of info. Lorrie Shapiro, senior director of DVD and home video for Shout!, is quoted in the upcoming
Video Business TV-on-DVD guide (in next week's issue, I believe) as saying, "There will definitely be a second Shout! Factory
Electric Company collection!" We'll let you know when to expect that, and what will be on it. Stay tuned!
