Fans of
Eerie, Indiana have been through a lot while waiting for their show to be released. It all started with a
single-disc release of the series in Oct, 2000. Three years later the complete set was supposed to be released by BMG Special Products. The set showed up on a few e-tailer sites and fans were excited, until the set was pulled. When we tried contacting BMG we were told the set wasn't being released. Well, that wasn't correct, because our own David Lambert was one of the lucky few who ordered the set and
received it. So much for the set not being released. The handful of copies that were released were being sold for over $400 on eBay (Dave still has his).
We were
expecting the set to be released in January, 2004, but that fell through as well. Are you starting to get the idea that BMG doesn't really want to release the set?
More than half a year after we were expecting the release of the set we started to hear rumblings that the set may actually be released this year. Unfortunately all our contacts at BMG have left the company (not that they were much help anyway) so we were waiting on others to verify the information for us. Then earlier this week we received an email from Charles Power, letting us know that Oldies.com had the set for
preorder, with a date of
September 28th. We were able to use that information to verify the date with our other contacts working on getting information from BMG. Finally, the set has a date and it looks like it'll actually be released this time!
We expect the set will start turning up on other e-tailers like Amazon.com, but it looks like Oldies.com is the only place preselling it at this time. Hopefully BMG does a better job selling the set this time around - it can't get any worse!
Here's what Dave wrote about the set in his previous news item:
Eerie, Indiana - The Complete Series is a 5-Disc box set, with each disc in its own keepcase held together in a cardboard slipcover. Suggested list price is supposed to be $84.95, but this may change by the time of general release (
Gord's note - Oldies.com is reporting the set will sell for $34.98 US). Video is the original broadcast format of 1.33:1, and audio is listed as 5.1 Surround Sound. There are no supplements mentioned on the back of the slipcover box (which contains errors about the disc/episode count, and may help account for the delay). Running time is approximately 475 minutes for 19 episodes:
- Disc 1: "Forever Ware", "The Retainer", and "ATM With A Heart Of Gold".
- Disc 2: "The Losers", "America's Scariest Home Videos", "Just Say No Fun", and "Heart On A Chain".
- Disc 3: "The Dead Letter", "Who's Who", "The Lost Hour", and "Marshall's Theory Of Believability".
- Disc 4: "Tornado Days", "The Hole In The Head Gang", "Mr. Chaney", and "No Brain, No Pain".
- Disc 5: "The Loyal Order Of Corn", "Zombies In P.J.s", "Reality Takes A Holiday", and "Broken Record".
Please notice the price change - it looks like the new set will retail for $34.98 US!
UPDATE - Oldies.com went and changed the release date of the set to October 12th right after we posted the news story. Grrrrrr!
