Last fall we
described an exciting release called
Eerie, Indiana - The Complete Series on DVD. Back then - in October - the set was supposed to be released, but was suddenly delayed with no explanation. Copies started to be sold via online retailers, but then sales stopped all of a sudden. Despite this, I did manage to obtain my own copy of it:
At the time the release was delayed, it was said to be on "studio hold" until the end of January. Our attempts to question BMG about this were met with fustration, to say the least. With no alternative, we have stayed in touch with various retailers on the matter, trying to find out a new release date for this box set that the fans are absolutely clamoring for!
This week the word started drifting in from those retailer contacts: the set is no longer planned to be released at all. "Cancelled" was the word, over and over again. And then, to seal the deal, TVShowsOnDVD reader Eddie Brock forwarded a note to us the other day. He had asked BMG directly about the set, and what the proposed date this month would be. The reply was short:
Dear Eddie,
The Eerie Indiana release date has been put on hold indefinitely.
That is all of the information that I have at this time.
Please check back at a later date.
And that's all she wrote, folks. "Don't hold your breath" seems to be the advice to follow here. Perhaps the release got caught up in rights issues, like so many have before. If so, BMG ain't sayin'. Frankly, that note is the first indication we've seen from the company that admits the release even existed. For the few copies that leaked out before the recall, I expect they will turn into prized collector items.
We really
hate being the bearers of bad news, but so many of you have written in to ask what the situation is, that we wanted to spread the word. Our hero of the day is Eddie Brock, who actually did something about it when we were stymied. Our thanks to him, and to all the retailers who did their best to keep us informed as well (you know who you are). If this item ever gets back on the schedule, we hope the studio will contact us quickly with the good news, so we can pass it on to all of you.
