Before Martin Campbell directed Pierce Brosnan in
GoldenEye, Daniel Craig in
Casino Royale or Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones in
The Mask of Zorro or its sequel,
The Legend of Zorro, he directed a BBC mini-series called
Edge of Darkness. The mid-'80s production starred the late Bob Peck (best known as the hunter "Muldoon" in the original
Jurassic Park), Joanne Whalley (
Willow, the title role in
Scarlett), and Joe Don Baker (
Walking Tall, The Natural, The Living Daylights, Goldeneye).
Edge of Darkness won 6 BAFTA awards (the British version of the Oscars and Emmys) for TV categories that included Best Drama Series/Serial, Best Actor (Peck) and Best Original Television Music (to music legend Eric Clapton and prolific film composer Michael Kamen). Baker was also nominated for Best Actor, and Whalley nominated for Best Actress. Is all of this getting you interested? Me, too!
