It was just yesterday that we got the long-awaited
news confirming that
Earth 2 - The Complete Series would be released on DVD on
July 19th. Stars Debrah Farentino (
Hooperman, NYPD Blue), Antonio Sabato Jr. (
Melrose Place, General Hospital), Rebecca Gayheart (
Dead Like Me, Wasteland), and Clancy Brown (
Carnivàle, Superman: The Animated Series, The Batman) are joined on the show by guest stars like Virginia Madsen, Kelli Williams from
Medical Investigation, Tim Curry,
Lost's Terry O'Quinn and Ron Jeremy (
The Surreal Life).
The show had episodes that were makeup heavy (the show was nominated for an Emmy Award for that), as befitting its sci-fi scenario. The plot, of course, was about a group of people who set out to colonize a distant planet, but their ship went off-course and hit landfall in the wrong place. Promo shots for the program usually saw the cast set against the hull of the ship, and the cover art is definitely designed to remind one of that ship's hull and of the feeling of being lost on an alien world:
