This past August, the folks at the Timeless Media Group (TMG) released
Once an Eagle on DVD, the classic 1976 mini-series starring Sam Elliott, Glenn Ford and Amy Irving. Now the folks at TMG are gearing up to bring us this production in Blu-ray Disc format, too! According to the Amazon pre-order listing (see button link below, just over the package art), the
December 7th release will be on a single disc and cost $19.98 SRP (the running time there shows 420 minutes, compared to 520 for the DVD version; we're certain that this is just a typo, and someone at Amazon probably just hit a wrong key while typing that in). Here's the studio description, followed by the packaging picture:
Once An Eagle starring Sam Elliott! Once An Eagle is the epic story of America in the 20th Century, told through the lives of two career soldiers, spanning the tumultuous years from WWI to the Vietnam Era. Based on the best-selling novel by Anton Myrer, Once An Eagle is one of the most acclaimed mini-series of all time, alongside "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance." Sam Elliott takes on the role of Sam Damon, a courageous and compassionate man who finds his calling leading his men in war and in peacetime. Cliff Potts, on the other hand, plays Courtney Massengale, a ruthless achiever who will let nothing stand in his way to the top. The eve of America's entry into WWI finds the men friends, but as events unfold, the vast difference in their personalities leads to a face-off in a life and death struggle of good vs. evil. 7 Part Blockbuster Miniseries from NBC totaling 7 1/2 hours! Beautifully photographed in color by J. J. Jones, who received an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Cinematography!
