A month ago we
passed along word from the Facebook fan page of CBS Home Entertainment, that the next
Dynasty DVD release would be available in March 2011. Now
a new post over there, made during the weekend, reveals that the specific date of this next title will be (
Date Removed - see below). This seems to fit in with the studio's "one release per year" pattern that they've established for this series since the economy began to dip back in 2008. Our thanks to reader Anthony D'Alfonso for pointing the CBS comment out to us.
Note that this next release will contain episodes from the show's 5th Season, but it hasn't been revealed yet whether CBS/Paramount will continue with the split-season sets that they've done for the 3rd and 4th seasons, or if they will return to complete-season sets like they had for the first two seasons. Fans are certainly on the side of going the "complete" route, and the people who run the CBS fan page on Facebook say elsewhere that this type of feedback has been passed along to the decision-makers for that sort of thing.
Honestly, however, we expect it to stay in the split-season format, at least for now.
Dynasty's 9 seasons had episode counts of 13 ("15" if you count the triple-length pilot "Oil" as "3 episodes"), 22, 24, 27, 29, 30 ("31" if you count the double-length episode "The Titans" as "2 episodes"), 28, 22 and 22. It seems unlikely that seasons with higher episode counts will get anything other than the half-season sets we've been seeing; that might change when the studio reaches the final two seasons, which once again have lower episode counts. This is just our speculation, of course, but whether you agree with it or not, perhaps it is the same logic that CBS is using? Time will tell.
Stay tuned for further developments on the next
Dynasty DVD release, once CBS/Paramount makes it all official to the retailers!
Updated 1/04/2011 - CBS had posted an incorrect release month on their FaceBook page, and has kindly asked us to remove the incorrect date from our site. They'll supply us with the correct date once it's been announced.
