The 2006 Comic-Con International: San Diego gets under way today, and our very own Gord Lacey is on his way there right now. In conjunction with the Comic-Con events, BCI has sent out a press release for the
November 7th release of
Dungeons and Dragons. The show is licensed from Disney/Buena Vista, and - as the press releases' quote from Gord says - is very highly anticipated in the USA after being released for a while on DVD in the U.K. Just like the U.K. releases, the opening credits of every cartoon on this set will feature the original opening credits as seen in the first year of original broadcast on ABC. That unfortunately goes for the second season episodes as well, but please don't get upset at BCI for that. Long before they came into the picture, the restoration process that was performed on this show's masters made that alteration, and so the original second season broadcast credits aren't there any more. I guess the restoration team didn't realize that the credits were different from season to season. Here's the press release:

Los Angeles, CA (July 19, 2006) – BCI, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Navarre Corporation, has obtained DVD rights to the original 1983 animated series "
Dungeons & Dragons." The complete series, featuring all 27 episodes in a collector's four-disc boxed set, will be released under BCI's Ink & Paint brand on November 7th at a suggested retail price of $49.98. The announcement was made today by Jeff Hayne, Director of Acquisitions, BCI.

Dungeons & Dragons" tells the tale of six kids who, after riding the Dungeons & Dragons rollercoaster, mysteriously get sucked into its fantasy world. Once there, the kids are met with a variety of monsters and entities, but to their delight, they are also greeted by the mysterious Dungeon Master, who gives each of them a magical item to use to defend themselves against the evil beings.
The animated series is based on the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game that became a pop culture phenomenon in the 1980s, was produced by Marvel Productions and aired on CBS from 1983-1986. The game and series led to a feature film in 2000, starring Jeremy Irons and Marlon Wayans, as well as the Dungeons & Dragons Heroes video game for Xbox.
