Back in late 2006, BCI Eclipse
released the complete series of the classic '80s animated
Dungeons & Dragons, having licensed the property from Disney/Buena Vista through their Director of Acquisitions at the time, Jeff Hayne. The title's gone out of print, however, following
the shutdown of BCI by parent company Navarre, which happened at the end of last year. Hayne had departed from BCI quite a bit before that, however, and landed at Mill Creek Entertainment. Now we see history repeat itself, apparently, as Mill Creek acquires the license to the DVD rights, and prepares their own releases of
Dungeons & Dragons, both arriving on
August 25th!
Today Amazon.com has added a pair of pre-order listings for two upcoming titles, both from Mill Creek Entertainment. One is a single-disc release named
Dungeons & Dragons - The Beginning. It runs 240 minutes, for $14.98, and looks like it will have the first 8 episodes out of the 27 which were produced (take that episode count with a grain of salt, however, as it is not confirmed yet). The other release is a collection named
Dungeons & Dragons - The Animated Series. For $24.98, it appears to have the entire run of 27 episodes squeezed onto 3 discs...meaning that if those discs are single-sided, then there assuredly won't be any room for any bonus material such as we saw on BCI's version. Strangely, Amazon shows the running time as 686 minutes, noticeably higher than BCI's running time of 594 minutes. We'll try to get that straightened out, and also bring you the cover art, as soon as we can. Stay tuned!
