Dr. Kildare - 'The 1st Season' DVD from the Warner Archives is Almost Ready!

Look for it - hopefully! - some time before mid-year, according to our sources

Posted by David Lambert
This past November we passed along word from Warner Archive Collection honcho George Feltenstein that the long-awaited DVD release for Dr. Kildare, starring Richard Chamberlain, was finally in the works and would see the light of day sometime in 2013. Now we've gotten VERY reliable word that the first release is almost complete, and that Dr. Kildare - The 1st Season will be available in the not-too-distant future.

The first season consisted of 33 episodes which aired in 1961 and 1962, with guest stars like Ted Knight, Hayden Rorke, Anne Francis, William Shatner, Dick York, Ford Rainey, Dabbs Greer, Dick Sargent, Jean Stapleton, Tom Troupe, Beatrice Straight, Ellen Burstyn, Harvey Korman, Dan O'Herlihy, Dina Merrill, Martin Balsam, Arte Johnson, Connie Sawyer, Jack Albertson, Arch Johnson, Ken Berry, Bill Mumy, Pat Hingle, William Schallert, Patricia Crowley, Lee Marvin, Cliff Osmond, Rip Torn, Elizabeth MacRae, Richard Benjamin, Lauren Gilbert, and Mary Astor.

Our information tells us that, like the recent release of The F.B.I. - The 4th Season from Warner Archive, this first season set of Kildare will be packaged with the discs in cases marked "Part 1" and "Part 2," as if they were to be sold in half-season sets. And they probably will be at some point, but when the title is first offered it will be sold with both parts put together in a shrinkwrap bundle, as one complete season. No specific date has been finalized, but we're hoping to see it before the summer hits. That is EXTREMELY tentative, though, and could be subject to change...after all, you never know what production delays might pop up with this sort of thing. Stay tuned for more, including pricing and package art, as soon as that becomes available!
