At the beginning of this month we
reported about the bonus material that had been announced for
The Donna Reed Show - Season 3 on DVD, which at the time had moved to a November 3rd release date by Virgil Films and Entertainment. This morning we were speaking to Virgil's President, Joe Amodei, and he alerted us that this title had been pushed back a few weeks, to
December 1st, in order to accommodate some changes to the bonus material.
Unfortunately, two of the items that were being planned for this 4-disc set didn't come through at the last minute. The "Rare edition of the classic TV show THIS IS YOUR LIFE" and the "Look at the Donna Reed Foundation" won't be a part of this release after all. Rather than just pull them and be done with it, though, Virgil decided to push the title back in order to replace these with some other DVD supplements.
One of these will be a "Happy Holiday Wishes from the Stone Family" message, originally delivered for broadcast in a commercial slot during an airing of the show one holiday season. It will be included on this DVD release, and the timing is perfect since this set is coming out just in time for the holidays. Another one is going to be quite interesting to Donna Reed fans, and was recently found by the family among Reed's personal effects. These consist of a few congratulatory telegrams to Reed about her role in the classic film
It's a Wonderful Life, including one from none other than legendary actress Joan Crawford. Virgil's execs were excited about this, and with permission of the family will include scans of these in a "photo-gallery" style on the
Season 3 release.
And if all of that isn't enough for you, Joe Amodei also passed along to us that Virgil is hard at work on
The Donna Reed Show - Season 4, which is far from being finalized so they don't have a release date yet. However, the plan is to have this available in time for Mother's Day 2010. The goal is to include extensive bonus material with the
Season 4 release...possibly (no promises yet) enough to warrant an entire extra bonus disc! That would be fabulous, and we're looking forward to it (as we know all of you are). Stay tuned and we'll keep you updated on that, as developments occur. Our thanks to Joe Amodei at Virgil for passing all of this on to us today.
