Back in February, soon after Joss Whedon's
Dollhouse series hit the air on Fox, a website/blog called Dollverse.com
posted information about an eventual DVD release of the the first season. It stated that such a release would collect 13 episodes of the show starring Eliza Dushku (
Tru Calling, Buffy the Vampire Slayer). Plus it would possibly have the unaired episode "Echo," along with "
cast interviews, commentaries and other undecided extras."
We didn't pass along the info at the time, because we were unable to confirm it with a second source. Now, although we still don't have verification for the details of the contents, we do have confirmation about the release itself...of a sort, anyway. Amazon.com has
begun taking pre-orders for
Dollhouse - Season 1 on Blu-ray Disc. Yes, it's a listing only for the high-definition format...there's no orders being taken there yet for a standard DVD version (
that listing is only of the "sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" variety) [
UPDATE: the DVD listing at Amazon is now taking pre-orders, too; pricing is added to the text below].
The Blu-ray pre-order listing for
Dollhouse - Season 1 is thin on information. There's no release date given; just a notice that "
This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." No specs, contents, bonus material or other details are provided. Only a list price of $69.98 ($49.98 SRP for the DVD), which is currently discounted to $48.99 ($34.99 for the DVD) if you lock it in now (cost is subject to change at Amazon's discretion, without notice). And our retailer contacts have no further info to provide to us yet, either.
We'll update you, though, just as soon as the studio finalizes this release (and the DVD version, of course, that we're sure will also be coming), and starts revealing the details and package art. Stay tuned! In the meantime, our thanks to readers who contributed to this story, such as Mike Lopez, Steven Lesser and "Malik."
