Don Bluth's 1989 animated film
All Dogs Go To Heaven quickly became a beloved classic for kids and animation fans alike, and in 1996 fans received both a sequel (
All Dogs Go To Heaven 2) and a series. In
All Dogs Go To Heaven: The Series, the Burt Reynolds-voiced starring role of "Charlie B. Barkin" (who was played by Charlie Sheen in the theatrical sequel) was taken over by
Wings star Steven Weber. Vic Tayback's film role of "Carface" was taken over by Ernest Borgnine in both the sequel and the series. But star voices returning to the series from the original film were Dom DeLuise as "Itchy" and Charles Nelson Reilly as "Killer". They were joined in the series by
All Dogs 2 newcomers Sheena Easton as "Sasha" and Bebe Neuwirth as "Anabelle".
As with The Real Ghostbusters, the
All Dogs: Series property rests at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment in their "kiddie" department, with plans to target these releases mainly at parents, educators, and grandparents of children ages 2-8. And so the plan is to release these episodes on DVD in a best-of format similar to properties like PBS shows
DragonTales and
The Berenstain Bears. On
March 14th, Sony plans to release 2 separate DVDs with
All Dogs Go To Heaven: The Series:
