As you know, June 5th sees the release of
Doctor Who - The New Beginnings Collection on DVD, a box set with the three episodes that ended Tom Baker's time as the 4th Doctor. The BBC and Warner are now preparing to announce an
August 14th release of
Doctor Who - Story #075: Robot, which was Tom Baker's first episode as The Doctor, taking over for Jon Pertwee.
On the same date, the BBC and Warner will also release a DVD of
Doctor Who - Story #159: Survival, which was the final episode of the classic series' 26-season run, and Sylvester McCoy's last regular episode (although he would appear once more in a substantial role as the 7th Doctor, a few years later, in the
Dimensions In Time special production, before turning things over to Paul McGann in the '96 telefilm).
Robot saw companion Sarah Jane getting used to a newly-regenerated Doctor that has no time to get used to his new body; he must join the Brigadier and UNIT to stop a giant robot who has stolen the plans and many of the parts for a top-secret disintegrator gun. Look for commentary tracks, the documentary "Are Friends Electric?", featurette "The Tunnel Effect", a
Blue Peter segment, and the usual a photo gallery, production subtitle notes and Radio Times listings in .PDF format.
Survival saw the 7th Doctor returning companion Ace to her homeworld, only to find the people are missing and the pets have been victimized by unseen killers. Expect a massive amount of extras, including a new 5.1 audio mix, two commentary tracks, several featurettes and documentaries, Deleted and Extended scenes, plus the usual photo gallery, production subtitle notes, etc.
Stay tuned for box art, pricing, and other detailed info, which we expect to be available soon.
UPDATE: We now have
