The TARDIS narrowly avoids becoming engulfed in a cobwebby substance in space. It arrives in the London Underground railway system, the tunnels of which are being overrun by the web and by the Great Intelligence's robot Yeti. The Intelligence's goal is to drain the Doctor's mind; can the Doctor sabotage the device before the Intelligence's plan comes to fruition?
We had the heads-up
last October that this story had been recovered, and would be coming to DVD in 2014. Today Warner Home Video, who distributes in North America for BBC Home Entertainment, announced that Doctor Who - Story #041: The Web of Fear
is coming to stores on April 22nd
Priced at $19.98 SRP, this 2nd Doctor story stars Patrick Troughton, Frazer Hines ("Jamie McCrimmon"), Deborah Watling ("Victoria Waterfield"), and introduced Nicholas Courtney as COLONEL Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (nope, he hadn't been promoted to Brigadier yet!). Guest stars include Jack Watling, returning as "Professor Travers" (seen previously in Story #038 - The Abominable Snowmen
). It also marks the return of the Yeti and the Great Intelligence from that serial.
As we said, this story arc was recovered last year...well, most of it was. The six-episode serial (25 minutes each, for a total of 150 minutes) has always had Episode 1 in the archives, and in 2013 they found episodes 2, 4, 5 and 6. However, the 3rd episode is still missing. As they have in the past, the BBC will likely fill in the gap by re-creating the missing episode using animation, and syncing it to a restored recording of the audio from that episode. Finalized extras and package art aren't available yet, but below we have the key art which is supposedly going to be used for this item:
