We've been a bit remiss, in that we didn't tell you about this sooner! A couple of Tuesdays ago saw the release of the latest two Doctor Who DVDs: Time-Flight and Arc of Infinity. Both of these include a "coming soon" trailer, and they show that Doctor Who - Story #070: The Time Warrior is on tap for release in 2008.
The first story from the final season ("series") of Jon Pertwee's run as the Third Doctor, The Time Warrior introduced new companion Sarah Jane Smith, played then (and now, in The Sarah Jane Chronicles) by Elisabeth Sladen. The mysterious disappearance of several top scientists sends Doctor Who back in time to the Middle Ages, where a stranded Sontaran fleet commander is preparing to wage a high tech war.
The DVD will have a Commentary Track by Sladen, producer Barry Letts and script editor Terrance Dicks, along with a "Beginning the End" Featurette, optional new CGI special effects, trailers and continuity segments, Photo Gallery, Production Notes, CD-ROM features, Easter Eggs and a new Coming Soon trailer.
When will we see this in the USA and Canada? Warner Home Video, who distributes for the BBC, has recently announced Doctor Who - The Complete Davros Collection, Doctor Who - Story #104: Destiny of the Daleks and Doctor Who - Story #152: Remembrance of the Daleks: Special Edition for release on March 4th. So presumably The Time Warrior will be in stores afterward. There are strong indications that the previous "quarterly" schedule for Doctor Who DVD releases in North America is about to be changed, but we're not sure to what. The most popular guess among readers who e-mail us is "one title every other month," but we haven't seen evidence to back that up. Stay tuned and we'll let you know more as developments occur!
