The Doctor kicks off this new run of adventures by searching for his companion Clara - an Impossible Girl he's already lost twice. Together they find themselves battling monsters on distant alien planets, trapped in a Russian submarine with a deadly passenger, chasing terrifying ghosts, delving into the heart of the TARDIS, facing the Crimson Horror in Victorian Yorkshire, and coming face to face with an army of upgraded Cybermen. The action grows and the Doctor's oldest secret threatens to be revealed as the world's longest running science fiction series builds toward its explosive 50th anniversary in November 2013.
Ten days ahead of its broadcast premiere, today the folks at BBC Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video have announced that Doctor Who - The 7th Series, Part 2
is coming to DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc on May 28th
. These 3-disc sets will cost $24.98 SRP and $29.98 SRP, respectively. The 2012 Christmas Special, "The Snowmen," will be included along with all 8 episodes from the second have of the series (season). The known titles of those episodes are "The Bells of Saint John," "The Rings of Akhaten," "Cold War," "Hide," "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS," "The Crimson Horror," and the Neil Gaiman-written episode "The Last Cyberman." The season finale will also be included, written by showrunner Steven Moffat (rumors are that the story for that finale will lead directly into the 50th Anniversary Special - which will probably air on the anniversary itself, November 23rd - as well as the 2013 Christmas Special).
Jenna-Louise Coleman formally joins the cast as new companion "Clara Oswald," and there are return appearances by Dan Starkey as "Strax," by Catrin Stewart as "Jenny Flint," and Neve McIntosh as "Madame Vastra." Other guest stars for these 9 episodes include Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Doctor Who and the Curse of the Fatal Death
), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, First Knight
), David Warner (Titanic, TRON, Time Bandits
), Dougray Scott (Desperate Housewives, Mission: Impossible II
), Jessica Raine (Call the Midwife
, upcoming An Adventure in Space and Time
), Ashley Walters (Hustle, Inside Men
), Dame Diana Rigg ("Emma Peel" in the U.K.'s The Avengers
, 007's "Tracey" in On Her Majesty's Secret Service
), Rachael Stirling (Rigg's daughter, Snow White and the Huntsman, Tipping the Velvet
), Tamzin Outhwaite (EastEnders, Hotel Babylon
), Jason Watkins (Being Human, The Golden Compass
), and Warwick Davis (Willow, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi
, the Harry Potter
films). Gossip says that Alex Kingston (ER, Arrow
) will return as "River Song" for the finale, but that's not been officially announced or confirmed yet.
Also not announced is any word yet of The Complete 7th Series
releases, but we suspect that the BBC is saving that for later on (that's probably coming further along in the year). We're also still waiting on word about what extras, if any, will be included on these The 7th Series, Part 2
releases. But we do have the package art for those ready, and you can see them below:
