The Doctor is in! Overnight the folks at BBC Video and distributor Warner Home Video have announced the release of Doctor Who - The Complete 4th Series
on DVD. This new 6-disc set, arriving on November 18th
, will take the 10th Doctor (David Tennant) on new adventures in the past, present and future. The new season starts out with the "Voyage of the Damned" 2007 Christmas special (as the Doctor notes, "My Christmases are always like this!
"), featuring special guest Kylie Minogue as the one-story Companion "Astrid."
Then he's rejoined by Catherine Tate (The Catherine Tate Show
) as "Donna Noble," first seen in last year's Christmas special "The Runaway Bride." She joins the cast now as an ongoing Companion. And as the season goes on we see the return of 3rd Series Companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman, U.K.'s upcoming Law & Order: London
) - who's been hanging around Torchwood
- when she calls upon the Doctor to fight a classic series enemy race, the Sontarans, attacking Earth.
And later, as the season draws to a close, the 10th Doctor gathers an army of Companions about him, to battle the worst of enemies. Look for Donna, Martha, Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman, Torchwood
), Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen, The Sarah Jane Adventures
), Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke) and the highly anticipated return of Rose Tyler (Billie Piper, Secret Diary of a Call Girl
) to help the Doctor combat a Dalek army.

Bonus material includes the Doctor Who Confidential
segments noted above on the sixth disc (approx. 156 minutes), plus Audio Commentary tracks. An eight-minute long "Children in Need" 2007 charity special called "Time Crash," where the 10th Doctor (Tennant) briefly meets with the 5th Doctor (Peter Davison) immediately prior to the events of "Voyage of the Damned," is rumored to be included on this set as well, but that has NOt yet been confirmed by any studio information we've received so far (so please take it with a grain of salt).
Running time is 655 minutes. Video is anamorphic widescreen, and audio is English Dolby Surround 5.1, with English subtitles. Pricing is expected to be $99.98 SRP, as it was with the previous three season sets of the new show. Package art isn't available yet, but stay tuned!
A pair of episode titles listed above have been corrected. The studio information provided this morning listed "The Sontaran Strategy"; it should have been "Stratagem." It also had a working title, "River's Run," for the episode which was eventually titled "Forest of the Dead." We had already included the missing episode title "The Stolen Earth," when the DVD release info this morning simply listed it as "TBA." Now all of these corrections have been made, and we give our gratitude to reader Phillip Culley for alerting us to the ones we had overlooked. TVShowsOnDVD regrets any confusion.
UPDATE: This evening we've gotten an exclusive first look at the package art for this release. We've posted the picture in a separate news story.
