When a London bus travels through a worm-hole to an alien world, the Doctor must join forces with the extraordinary Lady Christina to help the unfortunate passengers, and themselves, get back home. But the mysterious planet holds terrifying secrets, hidden in the sand. And time is running out, as the deadly swarm gets closer...
The first
Doctor Who installment ever to be shot in high-definition will come home on both standard DVD and high-def Blu-ray Disc this
July 28th, when BBC Video and Warner Home Video release
Doctor Who - Planet of the Dead just two days after this special appears for broadcast on BBC America. This is one of 4 specials (five, if you count the 2008 Christmas Special) that wrap up David Tennant's time as the 10th Doctor. In it, he co-stars with Michelle Ryan, recently seen in the remake of
Bionic Woman.
Each comes on a single disc running roughly an hour. Additionally they each have a one-hour "
Doctor Who Confidential" behind-the-scenes look, as a bonus. The DVD will cost $14.98 SRP, while the Blu-ray version costs $19.89 SRP. This is releasing on the same day as
Torchwood - Children of Earth on DVD and Blu-ray, and the
Torchwood - The Complete 2nd Series Blu-ray edition...and all in time to be celebrated at the San Diego Comic Con!
You can check out an
online trailer for
Doctor Who - Planet of the Dead, and check out the Blu-ray and DVD packaging below. As you surely have heard by now, after this group of specials in 2009, Matt Smith is taking over the starring role as the 11th Doctor. His companion has
just been cast, and it's none other than Karen Gillan...who had a role in the
4th Series episode "The Fires of Pompeii." Be sure to check that out, too!
