Classic Who story arcs continue to materialize on DVD in 2012! Today the BBC and distributor Warner Home Video announced 1974's Doctor Who - Story #071: Invasion of the Dinosaurs with Jon Pertwee as the 3rd Doctor, and 1975's Doctor Who - Story #083: The Android Invasion with Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor. Both of these include Elisabeth Sladen as companion Sarah Jane Smith, and both will be released in the USA and Canada on January 10th. As usual, these DVDs are digitally remastered in both picture and sound. At this time the package art hasn't been made available for either title, so stay tuned for that. And stay tuned for extras, as they haven't been revealed so far. But here are the details for each title about the rest:
Doctor Who - Story #071: Invasion of the Dinosaurs (Jon Pertwee as the 3rd Doctor)
2 discs, 148 minutes, 6 episodes, full frame video, English mono audio, English subtitles, $34.98 SRP
Returning to London, the Doctor and Sarah Jane find a city almost completely devoid of life. The civilian population has been evacuated in the wake of an unimaginable event: somehow dinosaurs have returned to terrorize the Earth. As the Brigadier and UNIT fend off increasingly vicious attacks from gigantic prehistoric reptiles, the Doctor investigates just how these monsters are appearing without warning. But when Sarah Jane is kidnapped, the Doctor realizes perhaps even his oldest friends can't be trusted. Who is responsible for the devastating carnage? And what will Sarah Jane do when she awakes aboard a spaceship many light years from home?
To Be Announced
Doctor Who - Story #083: The Android Invasion (Tom Baker as the 4th Doctor)
1 disc, 98 minutes, 4 episodes, full frame video, English mono audio, English subtitles, $24.98 SRP
When the TARDIS lands in the sleepy English village of Devesham, Sarah Jane thinks the Doctor has finally got her back home. But all is not as it seems - the village is unusually deserted and deadly white-suited spacemen patrol the countryside. When the dead begin to come back to life, the Doctor decides to contact UNIT. But their UNIT friends are also dangerously changed. Who is Senior Defence Astronaut, Guy Crayford, and why is he in charge of UNIT? Who are his true masters, the Kraals, and what insidious plans are they concocting behind the scenes? The Doctor soon discovers the invasion of Earth has already begun, and if he doesn't stop it mankind will be utterly wiped out.
