For those of you who aren't in-the-know,
Totally Doctor Who was a CBBC (Children's BBC) program in the U.K. which began running along the start of the second season of
Doctor Who, when David Tennant took on the role of the 10th Doctor. The program, aimed at kids aged approximately 8 and on up, featured a behind-the-scenes look at (and previews for) episodes of
Doctor Who, games and contests, trivia questions, a viewer mailbag, and that sort of thing...all from a younger person's point of view. After all, lest we forget: as far as the producers are concerned,
Doctor Who is primarily a children's show. But with enough sci-fi in it to grab many of us adults along the way! I can live with that.
Totally Doctor Who ran for two seasons, ending after the third series of
Doctor Who wrapped. During the second year of
Totally Doctor Who, one of the elements of the show was a cartoon segment called "The Infinite Quest". It featured the animated adventures of The 10th Doctor and companion Martha Jones, as they go on a new quest they are set upon by Baltazar (who is otherwise known as the "Scourge of the Galaxy"). David Tennant and Freema Agyeman lent their voices to their usual roles. Balthazar was voiced by Anthony Stewart Head, who's well know for his
Buffy the Vampire Slayer role, and also appeared in the "School Reunion" episode of
Doctor Who as the evil Headmaster Finch. There were 13 parts to the animated adventure, each lasting just a few minutes.
It looks like yesterday's DVD
announcement for
Doctor Who - The Complete 4th Series doesn't wrap up the
Who-iverse home video releases for 2008 after all, as some readers tell us other websites were claiming yesterday! Because this morning BBC Video and Warner Home Video have jointly announced that they are releasing
The Infinite Quest on DVD in North America this Fall. It will be available on
November 18th, the same day as
Series 4. It's a single disc that they say is running 80 minutes, and includes extras such as Deleted Scenes, Interviews and a Photo Gallery. [
UPDATE: The BBC has clarified that the 80 minute running time given includes "over 30 minutes of terrific bonus material," which means the running time of the main feature is 45-50 minutes.] Video will be anamorphic widescreen, with language listed as English Stereo audio, and English subtitles included as well. Cost will be just $9.98 SRP. Here's the studio description, followed by a look at the package art:
In this animated feature, the Doctor and Martha follow a trail of clues across wild and wonderful alien worlds, to find the location of the legendary lost spaceship, the Infinite. They soon discover that they are not alone in their quest: the evil Baltazar (Anthony Stewart-Head) is also searching for the ancient starship, and wants to use its powers in order to destroy Earth and rule the galaxy.
