Doctor Who - 'An Adventure in Space and Time' Blu-ray/DVD Combo: Date, Cost, BONUS!

Not only will you get this docudrama in standard and high-def, but the bonus items include a separate DVD with 'Story #001: An Unearthly Child'

Posted by David Lambert
Travel back in time to witness the dramatic birth of Doctor Who. Actor William Hartnell (David Bradley, Filch from the Harry Potter films, Game of Thrones) felt trapped by a succession of tough-guy roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert (Jessica Raine, Call the Midwife) was frustrated by the TV industry's glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday afternoon drama, time travel and monsters! Allied with a brilliant creative team, they went on to introduce the world to the longest running science fiction series ever, currently in its 50th year and counting.
At the end of last week we passed along word that a "wide" general retail release of Doctor Who - An Adventure in Space and Time - the docudrama which tells the story behind the show's creation - is coming to the U.S. and Canada in the near future, and that the BBC was looking for fan feedback on which box cover art to choose. That survey is still ongoing, but even so the BBC's distributor for North America, Warner Home Video, has today announced that Doctor Who - An Adventure in Space and Time will be in stores beginning May 27th...and that is will be a DVD and Blu-ray Disc combo package!! Wooohooo!!

Priced at $24.98 SRP, this will be a 3-disc set with a Blu-ray version of the hour-and-a-half Adventure in Space and Time docudrama, a DVD version of the same, and then a bonus DVD with the 4-part story which started it all back in 1963: "Doctor Who - Story #001: An Unearthly Child." This disc not only includes the 4 parts of the original story ("An Unearthly Child ," "The Cave of Skulls," "The Forest of Fear," and "The Firemaker") but also the 40-minute Pilot Episode version of "An Unearthly Child," the unedited studio recording (with outtakes) that sold the powers-that-be on the show in the first place. This was previously made available in the 2006 release of "The Beginning Collection," but new fans who didn't get that DVD set will enjoy seeing where time started. You'll also get these extras:

  • William Hartnell : the Original (5 mins)
  • Making Of (10 mins)
  • Regeneration: Doctors 1, 2, AND 3 (recast)
  • Reconstruction: four sequences
  • Farewell: David Bradley
  • Christmas Greeting: David Bradley
  • Titles Sequence
  • Deleted Scene: Delia Derbyshire
Again, they are still picking the cover art from the four choices shown further down, but in the meantime you can pre-order this item from Amazon using the button link immediately below:
